Star Wars: Rogue One
Dec. 28th, 2016 08:52 pmYES!!!! This is the Star Wars I love so much, and what a great gap fill between Episodes III and IV!!!
Original storyline, check.
New, interesting characters that I actually remembered and cared about, check.
The right mix of drama and adventure with some humor thrown in, check.
Bonus points: the Empire became much more real, not just some distant evil force. Same for the Rebellion. I really loved how things stopped being so black and white, how the Alliance stopped being this fairytale, noble, can-do-no-wrong force – and yet there is no doubt that the Empire needs to be stopped and that the Rebels’ cause is just.
More bonus points for echoes of that spirituality of the fallen Jedi Order, which I missed so much in Episode VII.
They even somewhat brought me on board with some aspects of the old trilogy that used to I roll my eyes at, like the AT-AT “walking turtle” tanks.
It’s not quite the old trilogy, nor the prequels, and that’s great. There are a couple plotholes and yes it is flawed, but all the Star Wars movies are. I liked that we saw a glimpse of the more ordinary Star Wars people. Overall, I really wouldn’t mind seeing more movies like this.
Well done, guys.
