Date: 2016-10-27 06:30 pm (UTC)Shaw
Date: 2016-10-27 07:16 pm (UTC)Impression now: Awww, I adore Shaw! She’s badass, very resilient, sexy and dangerous. In a lot of ways, she’s the perfect soldier, because she’ll follow a cause without asking many questions, and she doesn’t want a lot in return. As she says, she doesn’t quite “feel” the way most people do, but perhaps that makes it even more precious when she cares – and we know she loves Root, we see her care for everyone on Team Machine, we enjoy the rare moments when she connects with someone.
Favorite moment: So many. Perhaps when she saves Fusco’s son instead of Fusco and apologizes, because she knows saving his kid is what Fusco would want. And from a storytelling POV, I loved she didn’t join the team straight away – she shoots Reese :D
Idea for a story: A fast-paced adventure/casefic with Shaw kicking ass and feeling sympathy for one of the numbers.
Alternatively, years post-series finale, Shaw finds a woman she can sort of connect with. Root!Machine approves and a new relationship develops between Shaw/new woman. At the same time, Shaw is still in love/dating Machine!Root and the whole thing is very dysfunctional and weird and very much Sameen.
Unpopular opinion: I’m not sure what are the unpopular opinions in this fandom. That said, I don’t necessarily see Sameen as a person who is “innerly good” or however you’d call it. She values loyalty and her friends, but under different circumstances I could see her being a killer for Samaritan and not feel bad about it (as suggested in the Alternative reality episode – what if the Machine was never created). However, her partnership with Team Machine brings out the best in her and she is awesome when fighting for a good cause.
Favorite relationship: Shaw/Root, Shaw&Bear, Shaw&team Machine
Favorite headcanon: Can’t think of anything right now.
Root
Date: 2016-10-27 07:47 pm (UTC)Impression now: Still absolutely love Root. I was skeptical when they were transitioning her from a villain to a hero, but then they actually pulled it off. Same as Shaw, she’s badass, dangerous, very sexy and very capable. Root is a genius who seems to be desperately in search of some higher meaning, and she has lost her faith in people… until the Machine, Harold and others restore her faith in humanity. I love how she never gives up, how ingenious she is and how deeply she comes to care for everyone on the team.
Favorite moment: So many of them!!! From the top of my head, Root blackmailing the Machine to rescue Shaw (by threatening to fall off the roof); Root telling Harold how him and his morals have made the Machine kind and sympathetic to people (or something along those lines); any Root/Shaw moment. (The whole If-or-Else and the ending. AWWWWW the feels!!!!)
Idea for a story: Root is found by Samaritan first. Does she ever realize she’s on the wrong side? (I think she is captured by Team Machine. Is fascinated by Harold and his “soft” Machine. Falls for Sameen. Betrays them for Samaritan. And because I’m a softie, she eventually saves them because Sameen and Harold’s morals get to her (and she nearly dies but doesn’t because Happy Ending!)
Unpopular opinion: Hmmm… Oh, I have one. I wasn’t enraged by the fact that Root died at the end. I was devastated, but at the same time, her death made sense from a storytelling POV, she died a hero, fighting for what she believed in, protecting the people she loved, and she was “reborn” in the Machine. You don’t get a better death than that.
Favorite relationship: Root/Shaw, Root/Machine, Root&Harold
Favorite headcanon: No idea…
