This actually started as a last minute back-up story, a short snippet of Diana and Neal talking after a case that went wrong. Except then the ideas kept coming… and suddenly I had a whole casefic on my hands.
I’ve had so much fun writing this story. I had a rough idea what was going to happen, but I was constantly being surprised by how things kept falling together, by the details and little side-plots. It’s been a really long time since writing something came this naturally to me, but somehow this story just wanted to be told.
As for the Diana-Peter relationship, that came as a revelation. I’ve always loved the Diana-Neal friendship, but I never realized just how great was the relationship between Peter and Diana. But the moment they began to work together during the case, it was like something clicked – and the whole thing just unfolded before me. The depth of the trust between them, their genuine concern for each other, everything that comes from Peter once being Diana’s mentor – I tried to put that into the fic. I’m glad it worked.
And Diana as the Mistress – that was so much fun :D Well, until it wasn’t – but she seriously deserved an interesting assignment. I’ve been wanting to give her one for a very long time, so this was a great opportunity to make it happen.
I miss Christie. But either way, Diana definitely deserves a happy ending – so I really hope the writers give her some love soon.
