So. I’m stuck home, sick with a cold. Not fun especially since I almost got sick today while teaching a class (not my brightest idea in hindsight, but I needed to show them their tests from last week and to sign their “student indexes”, which confirm that they passed my section of the subject and allow them to sign up for the actual exam).

So! There was this whole lovely experience when I was clutching at the whiteboard and the whole world was kinda spinning (turns out, I actually had a fever). Anyway, that was the final clue that maybe I should take a few days off in bed, so I visited the doctor who gave me all these cool meds that should help if they don’t kill me with their side effects. Awesome! :D

OTOH, I now have whole five days to:
- finish about fifteen homework assignments for my various psychology/pedagogy/sociology classes
- watch the Ice Hockey World Championship matches
- watch POI and Castle without interruption
- write finish my WCpairings fic
- watch movies, read the new zombie book I ordered on Amazon and discover other fine ways to procrastinate

And since I’m starting with the last point…

The character I least understand: I’d have to say Greer. Even though we got that episode that glanced into his past a bit, I’m still not quite sure why he believes that Samaritan is the best for people; how he got to that point. Also, is he really an idealist (even if his “vision” sucks), or is there at least some opportunism in his thinking? I can understand his thoughts pattern and predict his actions pretty well, but that underlying motivation still evades me.

Interactions I enjoyed the most: Aw, how am I suppose to pick?
I definitely enjoy all the main friendships on the show (and Bear! Everyone has a great relationship with Bear). I have to say, I liked what they did with Fusco and his relationships with the various members of “Team Machine” (and the same with Elias – I always enjoyed his scenes with Carter, John, Finch etc.) In a shippy sense, I was delighted that the show went the Shaw/Root direction. Finally, the glimpses of the Machine’s relationship with Harold have become something very special, and I love how it has us questioning what exactly is life and humanity.

The character who scares me the most: Samaritan. And in extension, people like Claire Mahoney who blindly believe in Samaritan’s world and are essentially becoming a new version of fanatics.

The character who is most like me: This is tough. In temperament, it might be Harold, but we’d probably disagree on quite a few things (e.g., I’m less of a pacifist than him). Shaw, Root, Zoe Morgan, no. John, no. Fusco, somewhat. Joss Carter… somewhat. She has that deep love for her family, and she lives by her morals, but those morals don’t necessarily equal the official rules and she does make some pretty big compromises like when she removes the dead body to save Fusco from being accused of murder. If we step outside the boundaries of main characters, maybe Grace.

Hottest looking character: Shaw, hands down. It’s not even a competition. (Although now that I think of it, Zoe Morgan could give her the run for her money. Both of them are incredibly hot. Shaw wins though, because Shaw.)

One thing I dislike about my favorite character: LOL, which one? :D But seriously, I don’t know. Because all these traits are crucial to what makes them them, and most of these guys’ weaknesses are also their strengths (like, take Harold’s caution and pacifism. On one hand, without them, the Machine could have been a second Samaritan. On the other hand, his pacifism/caution has stopped them from fighting Samaritan effectively on more than one occasion and has left Team Machine and the world in a pretty bad situation. But at the same time, Harold’s caution has been crucial in preventing other members of the team from acting rashly and probably saved their lives more than once in the past. And yet, those same traits have led Harold to hurting the Machine, “crippling it”, and if we accept the Machine as a person and Harold’s “child”, then he has been pretty cruel to this being which he himself brought to life. It’s never simple, and I love how POI plays with these things).
Oh, I got one. With Reese? The way he framed Fusco for another murder after Fusco finally got his “second chance” to be a good cop. Because hey man, not cool. I get that he wanted to get them an in with the HR, but that always felt pretty shitty from Reese (and really, the whole way he treated Fusco in the first two seasons. I get that Fusco started as a dirty cop, but since then, Fusco has been a pretty decent friend to Reese and had his back many times, yet John still treated him more like an asset than a friend or partner. Like, Fusco is facing a murder charge (accused of killing Stills) and he calls John for help? “Sorry pal, I’m busy.” Which stings especially bad since Fusco was innocent and Reese was the one who killed Stills and set Fusco up to blackmail him into working for him.)

One thing I like about my hated character: Huh. Now who is my hated character… Oh, yes. I wouldn’t say I liked anything that Samaritan did, but I totally admire him (it?) for choosing the little boy when talking with Root. 100% creepy, perfectly played.

A quote or scene that haunts me: There were LOTS of very emotional and haunting moments, but right now three scenes: the Machine “dying” at the end of Season 4; made me cry. The Machine all panicky and not sure whether Harry&co. are “good guys” and Harry’s speech that eventually persuades her to trust them. And finally Shaw “dying” in Season 4, the way she sacrificed herself for Root and the rest (and the somewhat anticlimactic way it ties to this episode and “attempt 4742” or whatever; showing how long she’s been holding on. Love that.).

A death that left me indifferent: The guys from Vigilance? Didn’t really care for them. Also, Dominic the drug dealer from Season 4.

My ship that never sailed:I wouldn’t say I feel extremely strongly about it, but I always liked John/Zoe Morgan. I don’t think John would settle down with Zoe in time of peace… but as his partner/friend/someone he can be with without worrying for her, I like them. She’s not his OTP and honestly it’s not the most romantic pairing, but they worked for me.
If things ever calmed down and Samaritan wasn’t a threat, I’d really wish Harry to be able to get back together with Grace.

Very cool answers. :)
You do have a point about Greer. I'm not even sure if he thinks he controls Samaritan or just serves it.

The character I least understand: Given the amount of screen time she had, I’d say Elizabeth. Though I wouldn’t necessarily say I don’t understand her; she’s just the hardest of them for me to relate to.

Interactions I enjoyed the most: Neal&Mozzie. There are plenty of others I loved (both gen and romantic), but these two were still my most favorite.

The character who scares me the most: This is tough. Rachel gets a strong vote, definitely. Vincent Adler too – with him, the show succeeded where (IMO) they failed with Pratt and the Panthers – they showed someone incredibly smart, ruthless and morally corrupt with all the “right” connections, and people like that can be more dangerous than any skilled killer. But perhaps the most terrifying was Peter when he was angry (you do NOT touch El, bad guys! It won’t end well for you.)

The character who is most like me: Heh. Kate, maybe? (Unless you take the interpretation that she was both diabolically evil and stupid). I’d say I definitely have some of Mozzie in me – the deep appreciation of family and loyalty for friends; being introverted and somewhat socially awkward; being smart and the fact that our intelligence sometimes made things difficult; having strong personal believes that may not confirm to those of the society (and being able to set them aside if family/friends are involved); a certain disrespect to “rules for the sake of rules”. (Before you ask, I never robbed a bank nor a museum :D The only thing I ever stole was sweets from my baby brother(s) when we were kids, and I believe they were stealing mine, so it was sort of a wash :D )
I could also see bits of Diana in me (among other stuff, the family thing, the loyalty thing, being a “trusted second instead of a leader” thing, a woman in a man’s worlds, loving martial arts), except she’s like fifty times more badass than me.
But I could relate to most of these characters on various different levels.

Hottest looking character: Sara? Diana? (Can I just say, she looks so sexy in seasons 5 and 6, with bigger breasts and somewhat softer features?) Neal, of course (his island looks FTW). Maya and Gordon Taylor if we include minor characters :D

One thing I dislike about my favorite character: Neal, this underlying self-pity/rationale that since his dad was a bad guy, he had to be a bad guy as well. (At the risk of sounding mean: get over it. It was understandable at eighteen. At thirty-something, you’d think he would have moved on.)

One thing I like about my hated character: Ha, I don’t actually have many hated characters (even the bad guys I like as bad guys). Hmmm… Agent Collins? Though, as for what I like about him… that he disappeared after Most Wanted, never to be seen again? He was quite good-looking I guess, maybe… and he was efficient, in how he tracked Neal, how he turned the island on him and how he saw right through his escape and shot him. Though, I wouldn’t say those were things I exactly liked

A quote or scene that haunts me: Mozzie’s puppet show. Kills me every time. Also, “I think we took heaven off the table a long time ago, Mozzie.” from Neal in Season 5.

A death that left me indifferent: Keller, I’d say. Even though he was one of my favorite baddies, at that point I just didn’t care if he lived or died.

My ship that never sailed: I always had this head canon of Mozzie/Sally beyond the scope of that one episode. (Also, Sara and Neal totally got back together after Season 6.)

Avatar: the Last Airbender (will do House later)

The character I least understand: I don’t know, all these characters had pretty clear motivations within their characters. That’s part of what is so cool about this series; that the characters remain in character and there are no crazy plotholes for sake of drama.

Interactions I enjoyed the most: Iroh-Zuko, or basically Iroh-anyone (he was definitely my favorite character). Though I loved sooo many of these characters and their relationships :D

The character who scares me the most: Azula, because the idea of a teenager that twisted is just wrong. (Though her dad is a close second).

The character who is most like me: After some contemplation, I’d say I’m the closest to Zuko. I wouldn’t relate to him that much in Seasons 1-2 due to all his trauma and family mess, but in the third season… I could definitely see lots of parallels. (And even the first two seasons… I tend to become selfish/self-absorbed when facing a highly stressful situation, hanging on to my core values and only to a very small ring of people I trust. Sounds pretty much Zuko season 1-2, if on a much smaller scale.)

Hottest looking character: LOL. Umm, Suki? Also Zuko once he grew out his hair (scar or no scar). If we include older people, then Master what’s-his-name who taught Sokka his swordfighting skills.

One thing I dislike about my favorite character: Which favorite character in particular? :D Okay, going with Iroh, sending Azula a baby doll from the war. (I mean, we all know she’s a psychopath so I’m not shedding any tears over her, but why does the girl have to get the creepy doll when she’s at least as talented as her brother in martial arts?)
(Lame, I know. But I really love these characters!!! :D )
Also, Zuko turning on Iroh… but I think it had to happen in his character development. *Hugs them both*

One thing I like about my hated character: Azula? She’s pretty and very capable (I always like my villains smart :D ) Though, she’s more the case of a character I love to hate…
Character I hate hate might be the guy from the city where Avatar Kioshi “murdered” Chin the Conqueror (where they wanted to boil Aang in oil and have “justice” that is “Just Us”). As for liking anything about him… they didn’t boil Aang in oil? :D

A quote or scene that haunts me: I wouldn’t say there’s a scene that haunts me, though there were really many powerful moments.
I love the moment in Season 3 where Katara(?) finds the picture of adorable “baby Zuko”, only it turns out it’s baby Ozai. Because, yes, Ozai is a really terrible human being and the world definitely would be a better place without him, but they’re all basically asking Aang to murder a man while he’s still barely a teenager.
On the same note, Sokka killing “Mellon Lord” with “mellon brains” scattered all over the ground just makes you very very uneasy…

A death that left me indifferent: I don’t know, was there one? Maybe General Zhao… I liked the way they killed him and basically the whole sequence, but I definitely didn’t mourn that he was gone.

My ship that never sailed: Didn’t really have one, I think – I didn’t have many ships in this universe, and those I had were canon.

SO TRUE. None of the characters go nutso.

Iroh! He really is hilarious.

Suki! I agree :D I'd also say Katara, but she registers far more on the adorableness scale than the hotness scale. And my goodness, is she adorable.

They did not! Probably because boiling him in oil would have been counter to the goals of the series XD But, knowing Aang, he'd find a way to get out unscathed.

Yep, it's Katara. And yes, that scene is the stuff of nightmares.

The character I least understand: Hmmm. It’s kind of the same with all the main characters; in that I understand them all to a point, but not all that well. With the smaller characters… maybe Amber? Heh.

Interactions I enjoyed the most: House tormenting his team, their general interactions and the snark (I was never that much into House, but part of why I kept coming back because of the snark :D).

The character who scares me the most: House when he does crazy stuff because he’s sure he’s right. And often enough he is, but you always have to worry if he’s going to kill the patient this time by doing something drastic.

The character who is most like me: This is definitely tough. TBH, I don’t feel all that close to any of them. Definitely not Hause, Foreman, Cuddy. Maybe Masters? Thirteen… fits on some levels, very off on others. I don’t know *shrugs*

Hottest looking character: Thirteen, maybe?

One thing I dislike about my favorite character: If we go with Thirteen, I wish more optimism for her, though I get that the way she “sees things as they are” (read: bleak and pessimistic) is in a major way her defense mechanism. (So, basically I’d like to see her happy? Which is not as much about things I dislike about her as wishing that nice things would happen to her…)

One thing I like about my hated character: I don’t think I had a hated character on House, though there were many characters I didn’t like very much.

A quote or scene that haunts me: There were many very powerful scenes – for all of this show’s faults, they could do these highly emotional moments very well). Let’s see… Thirteen killing her brother; Chase finally talking to her (off-screen) about how it felt to take a human life. Also from House’s time at the mental hospital, that scene where he took out the mental patient who believed he could fly… and that man then steps off the high building and nearly kills himself.
(May I just say, House in general is such a depressing show? Just note all these subliminal messages… “You can’t always get what you want”, “Life is what it is (life sucks), lotteries are stupid”, “People lie” (people are selfish bastards) from the top of my head.)

A death that left me indifferent: Ugh… Maybe doctor guy who committed suicide in S4 because they needed to write him off the show? I hadn’t yet grown truly fond of him, he basically just disappeared, there were bigger things going on. Moving along.

My ship that never sailed: Didn’t have one.

Who doesn't love House's snark? :D

But then, there's a fact of the fifty thousand dollar "in case House fucks up" allowance that always comes in under budget.

Well, that makes me exactly like Thirteen XD

(That really is true. House is almost made for misanthropes.)

Oh, yeah, Kutner. I liked him. (Probably only because he was Indian, but hey. Literally one of the only Indian characters I've seen on American TV, so.)
